WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) — A school bus struck and killed a 15-year-old Kentucky girl as she crossed the street, officials said.
The Clark County Coroner identified the victim as McKenna Letcher, of Winchester, and said she was hit by the bus before school on Tuesday. She was a student at George Rogers Clark High School in Clark County.
The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. at a busy intersection. A woman who lives nearby told WLEX-TV that there have been several motor vehicle accidents at the same intersection.
“It’s bad up there. The accidents I’ve heard just being in my yard on a day that I’m watering flowers, or just walking on the yard with my grandkids,” Joy Sparks said.
Clark County Schools said in a statement that the school family is heartbroken by the accident and that grief counseling and support will be provided for students and staff.
“Please keep the student’s family, along with the entirety of our school system and community, in your thoughts and prayers as we work through this very difficult time,” Clark County Schools Superintendent Dustin Howard said.
