SOUTH BEND, Ind. − Police in South Bend are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy reportedly run over by a vehicle his father drove at an apartment complex Sunday night.
The victim, Jeremiah Holmes, was injured and pronounced dead at a local hospital Sunday night. Police said his father, Christopher Holmes, 28, of South Bend, was cooperating with investigators with the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team who is investigating the boy's death.
Officers responded to Castle Point Apartments at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday for an unknown problem with a 5-year-old child who was not breathing. Officers discovered that the child's father had accidentally run over the boy in the parking lot of the complex's playground, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Police Department.
